Obituary for Robbie Kay Straight (Gass)

Robbie Kay (Gass) Straight
1/20/1941 - 7/5/2018

It is with much love and sorrow that the family of Robbie Kay Straight, age 77, of Crystal, MN, announces her peaceful passing on Thursday, July 5. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Esther Gass, her brother-in-law Gerald Ebensteiner, her best friend Sharon Schirmers, and her husband of 50 years, Duane Straight. Robbie will be forever missed by her children Lisa Straight (Benjamin Allen) and Mark Straight (Michelle), grandchildren Joel and Isabella Straight, siblings Judy Ebensteiner, Janet Gass and William Craig Gass (Jean), siblings-in-law James Straight (Lisa), Dianne Giessinger (David) and Joan Blankenship, Goddaughters Michele Morris (Curt) and Sandra Johnson (Darrick), as well as many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Robbie was born in Orange, Texas, and lived most of her life in Minnesota. In 1959, she graduated from North High School in Minneapolis. After her 1961 wedding, she became the co-owner and operator of Straights’ Concessions for nearly half a century, working and traveling and forging many lasting friendships across the upper Midwest. In her free time, she was a passionate gardener and a gifted floral arranger, creating many gorgeous landscapes in her much-loved yard. She was also a devoted animal and pet lover, a loyal and tender-hearted friend, and a quick dipper of corndogs! Robbie will be long remembered for her strong work ethic, her feisty spirit, her hearty laughter, and her selfless, generous soul. She was never too busy to help others.

Thank you to our beloved Robbie’s talented medical staff and many wonderful caretakers, especially North Memorial Health Hospice, Comfort Keepers and J.A. Wedum Residential Hospice.

A funeral mass to celebrate her life will be held at the Basilica of St. Mary, 1600 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis, at 11:00 am on Friday, July 13. Immediately following, at approximately 12:00 pm, will be a reception and luncheon in the undercroft of the Basilica. Afterward, family and friends are welcome to join for the internment at Lakewood Cemetery, 3600 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider a donation in Robbie’s memory to either the American Cancer Society or the Animal Humane Society, both charities near and dear to her heart.
