Obituary for Clara Sue Clausen (Canterbury)

Clara Sue Clausen (Canterbury)
Clara “Sue” Clausen, age 73, of Bloomington, Minnesota
passed away surrounded by family on June 30, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; father, Clarence Canterbury, mother and step-father, Mickey and Hubert Hudson. She was survived by her children, Laura (Doug) Bloomquist and their children, Nick and Jake; Deb (Rick) Metcalf and their son, Tyler; and David (Sokhen) Clausen and their children, Samantha, Tessa and Matthew; sisters-in-law, Eileen Christian and Mary Clausen and many extended relatives and friends.

Sue was born in West Virginia and raised in Ohio. She graduated from Olmsted Falls High School in 1962.

Sue met Larry while he was in the Navy and they later married in 1966. They lived on base in both San Francisco and San Diego until settling down in Bloomington, Minnesota, where they raised three children.

Besides keeping a tidy, organized home, Sue enjoyed reading, crocheting, working in her flower beds and feeding the wildlife, including birds, squirrels, hummingbirds and other occasional critters. Sue had a knack for interior decorating, landscaping, and took great pride in her home, both inside and out, and it showed.

Sue was a homemaker, along with taking on some part-time jobs, but her main focus was on their children. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time together, visiting them at work or going to a Twins game. She had a tender heart and loved animals. Sue and Larry would take their dogs to the HSUS Walk for Animals and donated to many charities. She was a loving wife, mom and grandma and she will be missed more than words can express.

We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to those that cared for Sue during her illness. This includes the nurses and staff at both Carefree Living, Bluestone, and Brighton Hospice. Thank you for treating Sue with respect and dignity, for making her comfortable, and being there for her when we couldn’t.

Sue’s Funeral service is Thursday, July 5 at 12:00 p.m. at Gill Brothers Funeral Home, 9947 Lyndale Avenue South, Bloomington. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
