Beverly Jane Martin, Thelen (nee Anderson), 89, of Burnsville, passed away early Saturday (February 10, 2018) at Region’s Hospital surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be held at Gill Brothers, 9947 Lyndale Avenue, Bloomington, from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, February 15. A celebration of life will be held at Gill Brothers at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 16, with a prior visitation at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis.
Beverly was born March 31, 1928, in Minneapolis, the daughter of Benjamin and Susan (Olson) Anderson. She married Douglas Joseph Martin on July 19, 1947. He preceded her in death on May 26, 1987. Beverly married Peter Thelen on June 25, 1994; he preceded her in death.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Donald Anderson and Howard Anderson; and sisters-in-law, Mayme Anderson, Marge Anderson, and Mary Lou Anderson.
Survivors include brothers and sister-in-law, Robert (Phyllis) Anderson of Richfield, and Richard Anderson of Palm Desert, Calif.; five children, Bradley (Barb) Martin of Rosemount; Connie (Ken) Duellman of Lino Lakes; Christine (Federico) Zuckermann of Champaign, Ill.; Gary (Cheryl) Martin of Eagan; Wade (Beth) Martin of Shoreview; grandchildren Kimberly Faussett and Randy Martin, of Lancaster, Calif.; Carla (Brian Wieler) Duellman of Lino Lakes; Stan Duellman of Blaine; Kasia Duellman of Idaho Falls, Id.; Mindy (James) Herron of Rosemount; Shelley Welch of Lakeville; Amanda Duellman of Burnsville; Joseph Martin of Fridley; Lauren (Vilayvong) Sompheth of Chicago; Andrew Zuckermann of Champaign, Ill.; A.J. Martin of Chicago; Ben Zuckermann of Chicago; Matt Zuckermann of Wheaton, Ill.; Nick Martin of Chicago; Josh Zuckermann of Champaign, Ill.; Jack Martin and Nora Martin of Shoreview; 16 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
Beverly graduated from Central High School, Minneapolis, in 1946. She worked clerical positions for Pearson’s Candy and Kemp’s Ice Cream. Early in her marriage, she was employed at Shenandoah Pharmacy, where they offered her a full scholarship to attend pharmacy school; however, she declined because she was moving to California with her husband and first born child, Brad. She worked for 30+ years as a cashier for Red Owl Food Stores in Bloomington. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. As a mother/grandmother and homemaker, Beverly blessed her family with her talents including her numerous sewing, knitting, and crocheting projects, as well as for her legendary apple pie and tapioca pudding. She amazed everyone with her ability to repair a wide variety of items including plumbing, major appliances and automobiles.
Beverly is remembered for her loving, gentle and humble spirit, her positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to help and serve others. Beverly had a deep love for God and her family. Her continuous smile and her sharp wit, much of which was directed to her granddaughter and primary caregiver, Amanda, will be remembered forever. She was nicknamed “Princess” several years ago by Amanda, a title she wore exceptionally. The nickname stuck and was soon used by all. She loved her precious dog and constant companion, Abbie. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing games, and working puzzles with all who came to visit. She was a well-known card shark. Beverly loved to travel. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
Memorial donations may be made to Augustana Open Circle in Apple Valley.
