Obituary for Richard Adolph Gerde

Richard Adolph Gerde
Richard A. Gerde
Richard (Dick) passed away peacefully on November 21st, 2017. At 89 years of age, he is survived by his beloved wife, Florine (Pat), his brother Robert (Celeste), four children, Steven (Elisabeth Wierum), Timothy (Marilyn), Holly (Dale) Neuberger, and Mark (Arlett); eleven grandchildren, Justin, Peter, Frances, Elizabeth, Sarah, April, Jason, Joshua, Matthew, Andrew and Maiya; eight great grandchildren; Wyatt, Danielle, Kori, Aiden, Adilyn, Brody, Nixon and Liam. Dick and Pat had 67 years of marriage, anyone who knew them would say they were a devoted couple. Family, faith and community were important to both of them. They made a church home wherever they lived. Their final church home was Normandale Hylands United Methodist Church in Bloomington, MN. Music was a shared love, they were active members of the choir, and in younger years they often sang at weddings and funerals. Freemasonry was important to Dick, who was made a Master Mason in Richfield Lodge in 1957. As of 2015, he was a member of the Phoenix Daylight Lodge #350 in Savage, MN. He was honored for his 60 years of membership in October of this year. Dick grew up in Richfield, MN. Graduated from Washburn HS in 1946. He loved sports, especially baseball. He played semi pro ball in his twenties and since 2011 worked as a Guest Services Associate at the Minnesota Twins - worked his last game on July 3, 2017. As much as he enjoyed being around the game of baseball he treasured the collegial friendships with other staff. As part of Pat's caregiving team for the past three plus years, he endeared himself to the care team at the Masonic Long term Care Unit. We appreciate the loving care the staff gave to him in his final days. Visitation Monday, November 27th, 4-7 pm with a Masonic service at 7 pm at Gill Brothers Bloomington Chapel, 9947 Lyndale Ave. South. Funeral service at Normandale Hylands United Methodist Church, 9920 Normandale Blvd. South on Tuesday, November 28th, 11 am with visitation at 10:30. Reception to follow. Interment at Bloomington Cemetery. Memorials preferred to the University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital or Normandale Hylands UMC.
