Obituary for Larry Milford Madden

Madden, Lawrence M. "Larry"
Age 89 of Bloomington, Minnesota, died peacefully at home, on October 30th, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Larry was born in Minneapolis on a record cold Easter Sunday, April 8, 1928. He grew up in Green Isle, Minnesota and graduated from Glencoe high School in 1946. Larry enlisted in the Marine Corps and served from 1946 to 1947, and again from 1950 to 1952. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following military service, he attended the College of St. Thomas on the G.I. Bill. Larry married Carole Blomquist in Hopkins on February 5, 1955. He held various positions at Motor Cargo, Minnesota Valley Country Club, Budget Rent A Car, and Wagner's Nursery. He was a lifelong member of VFW Post 1296. He served as a manager for the Nine Mile Creek Watershed District. He was a member of the Bloomington Volunteer Fire Department, and was a friend of Bill W. Larry loved salt, sweets, his cabin up north, his John Deere riding mower, puttering on outside projects around the home, and everything Irish. He had a great wit, loved a good joke, and had the most beautiful twinkling blue eyes. He was a consummate conversationalist; young or old, relative or no, he was interested in everything about you. He will be greatly missed! Preceded in death by parents Milford and Geneva Madden; twin brother Jerry; sisters Mary Gen and Donna; and brother Kevin. He was also preceded in death by two infant children, Colleen and Michael. Survived by his wife of 62 years, Carole; daughter, Mary (Brad Christensen), son Tom (Debbie), and daughter, Kate. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Andy (Katie) Christensen, Bryan Christensen, Sean, David, Colleen, and Michelle Madden; two great-grandchildren, Brady and Kaya Christensen. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, November 17th at 11 AM, Church of St. Richard, 7540 Penn Ave. S. with visitation one hour prior to mass. Interment Ft. Snelling Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Church of St. Richard or donor's choice.
