Welch, Herbert F., Jr."Tim" Age 90, of Mpls. Died Oct. 28, 2017. Preceded in death by his wife, Nathalie; siblings Mary, Jack, Jerry and Tom; parents, Rose and Herbert. Survived by children: Mark (Catherine), Shannon (John), Peter (Luanne), Mary Anne (Michael), Rita (Tony), and Julie; 11 grandchildren; 2 "greats", and brothers, Bob and Bill. Tim was born in Mpls and made it his lifelong home. He was a WWII vet and served in the Philippines as a guard for Japanese POWs. A U of MN graduate, he worked his entire 40-year career as a mechanical engineer for Grudem Brothers. He will be deeply missed and remembered by family, friends of every age, and his faith community. For 60 years, Tim and Nat were a united front at home and in the world, creating a close-knit, loving family, and supporting the church and social justice causes. They never missed a child's or grandchild's recital, game, presentation, or graduation. He missed her these last 7 years, but continued sharing his home, heart and time with people. Wherever he was, Tim brought the fun. You always knew he was in the room because of his unmistakable laugh. A master in the art of conversation, he brought it up a notch, listening intently, sharing stories and discoveries (not data). He was interested in everything and wanted to live to 100 just to witness what was next. Tim enjoyed his days up to the very last moment. He leaves a deep and sure to be lasting legacy of inspiration to keep an open heart and an open mind. Reviewal Friday 4-8pm, prayer service at 7:00, Gill Brothers, 5801 Lyndale Ave S, Mpls. Funeral Service, Sat. 11am at Church of the Holy Name, 3637 11th Ave S, Mpls. Reviewal 1 hour prior to service at church. Interment following, St. Mary's Cemetery, 4403 Chicago Ave S, Mpls. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Dorothy Day Center or St. Stephen's Human Services.
