Obituary for Bruce Edward Hesse

Bruce Edward  Hesse
Bruce Edward Hesse was born on August 25, 1934 in Glenwood, MN, the only child of Lester Christian Hesse and Myrtle Evelyn Wilson Hesse. Bruce grew up in Benson, MN, and graduated from Little Falls High School in 1952. He earned a bachelor of arts degree at Saint Olaf College in 1956, married Jane Barbro Rotegard in 1957 in New Richland, MN, earned a Masters of Divinity at Luther Seminary in St. Paul and was ordained in 1960. Between 1960 and 1976, Rev. Hesse served Lutheran congregations in Keewatin, MN, Joliet, Il, and Detroit, MI. He earned a Masters in Social Work Administration from the University of Michigan in 1976, and worked for the South Dakota Human Services Department from 1977 to 1982. He then worked for 10 years at Anoka Regional Treatment Center in Anoka, MN. In his retirement, Bruce worked for 13 years as a social worker in the emergency room at Methodist Hospital. Bruce loved hiking, gardening, and being outdoors. He loved singing and participated in many choirs over the years. He loved watching Twins and Viking games. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jane; children, Greta (Bob) Gauthier, Peter (Elizabeth), Joseph (Julie) and Michael, and grandchildren Sonya, Khara, Olivia, Aaron, Alexander, and Finley Hesse and Elysia, Caroline Gauthier and Sasha Garcia. Services will be held at Wayzata Community Church, 125 Wayzata Boulevard East, on Friday October 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation 1 hour prior to service with a reception to follow service. Interment in New Richland, MN. Memorials preferred to the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
