Rosemary Kelly Behrendt, 91, entered into rest Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at Catholic Eldercare on Main, Minneapolis, where she lived for the past two years. She was the widow of Jerome M. Behrendt, Jr. Born in Elmira, NY, she was the daughter of James Francis (Frank) Kelly and Inez Esther (Esther) Marie Devlin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, and three of her children - John Jerome, Kelly Patrick and Sarah Jane Behrendt. She is survived by daughters Mary (James) Pierce of Lords Valley, PA, and Ellen (David) Gair of Minneapolis, MN and son James (Wendy) Behrendt of Bloomington, MN as well as grandsons Josh (Anne) and Zach (partner - Jesi Holcomb) Behrendt; Jonathan (Danelle) Gair, Nathaniel (Stephanie) Bois-Jolie Gair, Patrick, Joseph and John Behrendt and granddaughters Meredith (Bill) Burns of Milford, PA and Jennifer (Jason) Twitty of Roanoke, VA and eight great-grandchildren.
Initially a stay-at-home mom, Rosemary entered the workforce while her husband was recovering from a serious surgery, as a teller at Community State Bank in Bloomington, MN, and became the breadwinner for the family. She eventually rose to the position of Loan Officer. She loved fireworks, bridge, reading, crossword puzzles, going to the movies and especially parties with friends and family. In younger days, she played golf with her girlfriends. As an active member of Annunciation Catholic parish, she and husband Jerry volunteered for projects to help the homeless and the hungry. After retirement, she and Jerry traveled extensively throughout Europe . She remembered every place she ever was principally by what food she ate in what restaurant.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017, at 10:00 am at Gill Brothers Southwest Funeral Chapel, 5801 South Lyndale Ave, Minneapolis, MN. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at the Funeral Chapel at 11:00 pm. A luncheon will be served following the service at Gill Brothers. Burial will be at Lakewood Cemetery, 3600 Hennepin Avenue South, Minneapolis.
