Mark Paul Mahon, Former Bloomington city council member and Minnesota state representative died peacefully on September 7, 2017 at the age of 87. A native of Hollywood Township Mark was born April 24, 1930. Mark grew up in Winsted, Minnesota and resided in Bloomington since 1959. Mark's long public service career began when he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1953 where he served as an air traffic controller in Saudi Arabia during the Korean War. Following an honorable discharge Mark began his 36-year career with International Harvester, as a warehouseman and later President of United Auto Workers (UAW) Local #763. He won election to the Bloomington city council in 1979 and was re-elected three times. Mark also served as a member of the Bloomington Port Authority (1982-92) and the Metropolitan Waste Control Commission (1983-85). In 1992, Mark was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives representing east Bloomington and southeast Richfield (40-A). He won re-election in 1994 and 1996. Mark worked tirelessly for the citizens of his district on issues related to metropolitan/local government affairs, transportation, economic development and infrastructure. He was a passionate defender of workers' rights and for greater social equality. His deep passion for politics and for the Democratic Farmer Labor Party included the 1976 Democratic National Convention in New York City as a Minnesota delegate. A devoted Democrat, Mark had many close personal friends on both sides of the political aisle.

Mark's passion included his loving family. He married Florence Mochinski of Winsted in 1956 and had four sons. Mark was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Andrew, Michaela, Emily, Bryan, Catherine, Joseph, Madeline and Eleanor. He is survived by his sons Kevin (Mary), Stephen (Claudia), Paul and Mark, his companion of 15 years Karen Pedersen of Bloomington, and his brother Maurice and sister Mary. Mark was proceeded in death by his mother Catherine and his father Paul, as well as his sisters Rose and Margaret.

Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 13th at The Church of St. Bonaventure, 901 East 90th Street, Bloomington. Visitation 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 12th at Gill Brothers Funeral Home, 9947 Lyndale Avenue South, Bloomington and one hour prior to service at the church. Interment Holy Trinity Cemetery, Winsted, Minnesota.
